Barbara, eine ältere Dame aus Iowa kam unangemeldet in die DOK und wurde von der Kollegin vom Empfang in die Ausstellung geführt. Ähnlich wie Tom Dolan kam sie auf gut Glück nach Barth und wusste zuvor nichts über die DOK und die Gedenkstätten. Zufällig kam auch ich kurz darauf in die DOK und traf sie dort an, wie sie sehr bewegt durch die Ausstellung ging. Ich bot ihr eine Führung an, während der sie mir erzählte, dass ihr Vater, Lt. Georg Hannon, Navigator in einem B17 Bomber war und am 11. Januar 1944 bei Aschersleben nach Beschuss deutscher Jäger aussteigen musste. Er kam dann über das DuLag in Oberusel nach Barth.
Nach einer Führung durch die DOK und zur Gedenkstätte des Stalag und zum Flugplatz überreichte sie mir ihr Buch, Letters from World War II, dass sie auch signierte. Es handelt von ihren Eltern. Sie hatte es gerade erfolgreich auf der Frankfurter Buchmesse vorgestellt. Es enthält sehr viel Informationen über Georgs Zeit bei der USAAF und im Stalag. Besonders interessant sind die vielen Kopien von Originaldokumenten, die ihr Vater mit nach Hause gebracht hatte. Einiges war mir bislang nicht bekannt, z.B. dass Briefe von Angehörigen grundsätzlich über Stalag Luft III (Sagan) nach Barth kamen, während die Pakete direkt ins Stalag Luft I geleifert wurden.
